Wasted garden in Living space out

A garden room is a permanent, insulated structure built in your garden and finished to the same standard as the inside of your home. Insulated floor, walls and roof. Full electrics and heating. Plastered, decorated and floored.

That is the difference between a garden room and a summer house or a shed. An insulated garden room is a room you use in February, work in every day, and heat like any other part of the house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Usually not. Most garden rooms fall under permitted development if they sit under 2.5m high within two metres of a boundary, cover no more than half the garden, and are not used as separate living accommodation. We check your specific plot when we visit, and we will tell you if yours needs an application.

Yes, provided it is properly insulated. Multi-layer insulation in the floor, walls and roof, with heating designed in from the start, is what makes a garden room usable all year. It is the single biggest difference between a garden room and a summer house.

It depends on size, specification and the groundwork your plot needs, so there is no single honest number. We give you a clear, fixed price at design stage, before you commit to anything.

Yes. Plumbing and drainage are designed in from the start rather than added later. We survey the drainage before we design, so you know it works before you commit.

That is what the site visit is for. We measure, look at access and sightlines, and design something proportionate — and Gecko Greenscapes can rework the planting around it so the garden still feels like a garden.
